flowers is my passion!
Information
for deciding which design is right for your flowers and on how to send
your flowers to Buttermilk Lane Jewelry:
If you wish the jewelry between glass with the floral designs
in this style they need to be pressed ASAP.
If your flowers are fresh you have the option to press them yourself,
or overnight ship them for me to press.
Time is essential to get them pressed ASAP for a good outcome.
Any jewelry [or paperweight] style above can be achieved with freshly
pressed flowers.
If your flowers are already air dried, you will be able to send me your
dried flowers via regular mail in just an envelope.
I can make the confetti style jewelry with dried petals. I will not need
many; just send a few of the most colorful.
The amount will vary, of course, depending on how many items you wish.
Please use the USPS for all shipments. Please send me an
e-mail
to notify me that you have shipped the flowers, so I will know when to
expect them.

* How to press your
own flowers:
If you wish to save the cost of overnight shipping ($21 average cost)
First, do not try and press succulent flowers such as gardenias or
lilies. These are difficult to do and tend to rot easily.
Roses, larkspur, carnations, baby breath, and Alstroemeria press quite
easily with good results.
A simple phone book and about 5# even weight will be all you need.
Pull out and press individual petals from the flowers, NOT the whole flower.
Take a rose apart and select the middle section of petals, as these will be
in the most pristine shape with crisp edges.
Place about 4 petals per page right into the spine area.
If you are pressing white roses, place them between tissue paper and then in
the phone book.
The ink can transfer to the white rose petals, but all other flowers should
be fine.
Skip a chunk of pages and repeat until you have a "guesstimate" of petals
needed.
Then close your book and put something firm, maybe a board or another book
of same, or larger size, on top with about 5# weight.
Put this in a DRY area of your home. The top of a refrigerator is perfect.
In 7-10 days they should be ready to send to me.
Place them [together is fine] in tissue paper with light cardboard on top
and bottom to protect them. Seal well, so they don't slip out.
You can them mail them in a manila envelope marked "Do not bend" "fragile"
etc.

* If you have fresh
flowers and wish the confetti style jewelry or paperweights:
This is sooooooo easy to do!
The best way to dry your flowers for this purpose is to pull all the
petals off the flower head.
Try and avoid getting stamens and leaves and the stems mixed in.
Arrange a bunch of loose petals on 1 sheet of paper towel and "nuke" for 30
seconds on "high".
Change paper towel after each 30 second "blast" and wipe the moisture from
the microwave.
When the flowers feel dry [they will feel crunchy and brittle] you are
done. They will shrivel right up, but this is fine.
Most flowers will be dry after about 6 blasts of 30 seconds. Do NOT
nuke for more than 30 seconds each time, as the flowers will burn! Please
"nuke" white flowers at 20 second intervals.
If you are in a low humidity area and are not in a rush....just spread you
flower petals out on tissue paper or newspaper
When they are absolutely dry they will be very light in weight and
feel dry.
Place them in an envelope within the mailing envelope or box and mail them
to me.
It is best NOT to use a baggie, as they can hold in moisture if any is left
in your petals and they can rot the flowers.
*How to ship your flowers for me dry for
confetti style items:
If you want the confetti style items, then you
DO NOT have to overnight your flowers to me.
You may either dry them yourself, as above, or send them to me
PRIORITY mail ($4.95)
They will arrive in good enough condition to be air dried if I
receive them
by priority mail as soon as you can ship them out. Please do not wait 3-4
days before sending!
If sent right away flowers can arrive from anywhere in the US and be fine
for the confetti
style.
Cut all stems off and wrap each flower head loosely and individually
in paper towel.
Try and select colors that go well together and are the most
colorful.....unless you wish a more subdued look.
Flower selections that work best are roses, larkspur, baby breath,
snapdragons, and mums.
If sending flowers for paperweights, you can add berries that will not work
for the jewelry.
Flowers that do not work well and tend to lose color are the more succulent
flowers like gardenia and lilies.
For paperweights, you may include some foliage, but with jewelry, I usually
use my own petite ferns as accent.
Nestle each flower head loosely amongst crumpled newspaper.
Try not to pack your flowers until you are ready to ship them. Until then,
keep them in the refrigerator in a vase of water.
Keep from freezing them. When ready to pack, be careful not to get water on
the flower heads! Cut the stems off carefully to avoid this.
USPS is the cheapest way to send your flowers.*
For Overnight Express the post office will say they will be 2-3 days
sometimes. This is almost always not the case!
I have sent items overnight to Alaska and they arrived on time. I think the
PO does not want to take responsibility if they don't show up overnight. If
you have flowers to be shipped over the weekend, it is best to keep the
flowers refrigerated and ship them Monday.
You may also use UPS [my preference] or
FedEx. Please click for shipping
addresses as they are different for each carrier!!!!
PLEASE do not hesitate to call me with
ANY questions.
I want to make this process as easy as can be for you.
